MISSION IS A NOBLE COURSE
MISSION IS A NOBLE COURSE
Today many Christians have different views of what mission
Some Christians are of the opinion that “Mission” is a
thing of the past, others believe “Mission” is meant for the
frustrated Christians or those who choose to suffer. There are others still who have no idea of what mission is.
WHAT THEN IS MISSION?
Christian Mission is a command that Jesus Christ gave to His
followers in Mark 16:15-16 which says “… Go into all the
world, and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever
believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not
believe will be condemned”. The commission that Christ left us with is the task of taking the gospel to every village, town, city, and the whole world, not just to witness to
them or evangelize them and go away, but to stay among
them.
In the past, men and women left their comfort zones armed with the gospel to those who had not heard it or those who had heard but not enough to get them saved; men and women that had passion for God and His Kingdom, and also had compassion for unsaved souls.
They left all the pleasures the world could offer for the sake of the gospel and today you and I are products of their labors.
WHAT DOES MISSION ENTAIL?
You will agree with me that a teaching and a learning process cannot be done overnight, rather, it is a gradual thing. Jesus was not mistaken when He said “teach them”.
How do you teach people what they don’t know? In this case, it is by living among them and instructing them. The teaching aid you need to make them understand your
teaching and instructions is your lifestyle – which they can only observe when you stay among them; only through this can you make disciples among the people for the LORD.
Jesus, our perfect example lived with His disciples, but even at
that, the understanding of some was shallow. Imagine: Judas Iscariot betrayed Him, Peter denied Him, Thomas doubted His resurrection (John 20:25). These were men who lived, ate and witnessed virtually all the miracles that the Lord did. This shows that the making of a disciple is not an
easy job; it takes commitment and deliberate effort.
It is only those who have passion for God and His Kingdom that take the commission of “Mission” seriously. The plan of God is to see that all families on earth are blessed {Gen. 12:3,22:18, Gal. 3: 8, 14-16}.
Looking around us, there are those who have not heard the Good News or heard it enough to get them converted.
Romans 10: 13- 15 says “…For, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they
hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they
preach unless they are sent?..” [NIV]
It takes deep understanding to understand the plan of God for the whole world and it is only men and women of deeper understanding that get themselves committed to
this “Mission Vision.” Indeed, Mission is a NOBLE COURSE.
Get involved in mission today, either by:
